The ‘Employee Journal’ caters to small business proprietors and personnel who prefer maintaining physical records of time and expenses. In addition to the time-tracking worksheet, users are provided with space to document their daily business expenses, categorized as common business deductions: mileage, meals, lodging, flights, and incidentals.
The time tracking feature is structured to monitor time worked in six-minute intervals from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Users can allocate columns to up to five distinct clients or distribute four for specific clients while reserving one for “other.” These assignments can be modified on a daily basis.
Beneath the time tracking logs, there is room to record daily expenses, allowing users to input all necessary details for accounting and tax purposes. This includes the vehicle used, origin, destination, and miles traveled for trips. For meals, categories include breakfast, lunch, dinner, other, and ‘with clients’. Lodging includes fields for the city and price, while the ‘Other’ category allows for input of expenses such as car washes, parking fees, and toll roads.
At the end of each month, users can review their daily records and complete the summary worksheet labeled “Month-End Review.” This involves calculating the total for each category and recording the sums in the corresponding fields. Additionally, users can document up to eight (8) flights taken during the month and classify whether they were domestic or international.
The journal is designed to aid in identifying potential tax deductions. Subsequently, the daily worksheets seamlessly transition into the “Month-End Review,” which in turn flows into the “Year-End Review,” serving as a tool for preparing tax returns.
